We have been lovingly involved in the purposeful breeding and showcasing of the Alaskan Malamute since 1996. It is a responsibility we take very seriously and our life with Alaskan Malamutes is both our biggest responsibility and our greatest joy. We obtained our first Malamutes in 1996 and immediately began showing them in conformation dog shows and working toward sledding and backpacking titles. In addition, our Malamutes have gone on to excel in performance events, as medical service companions, therapy dogs and some have been featured in print advertising for Roots® Canada, Holt Renfrew and in film and media appearances.
The Spiritrun breeding program was awarded Breeders of the Year by Pedigree in 2000. We are members in good standing with the Canadian Kennel Club since 1997, the Barrie Kennel Club, the Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada, and the Alaskan Malamute Club of America.

I am originally from Toronto ON and have always had a strong affinity to animals. My first introduction to the Alaskan Malamute breed lived across the street from me growing up. Additionally, I would frequently see another gentleman walking two Alaskan Malamutes through our community. The breed imprinted strongly on me and I knew that one day I would have one. As an interesting side-note, both of these gentlemen now own Spiritrun Alaskan Malamutes. A full-circle moment, indeed.
Shortly after Edmund and I married, we acquired our first, second, and then third Alaskan Malamutes. It was at that time that we knew we needed to move north and find land with fewer neighbours. With that, the trajectory of our lives changed forever. I give credit to the dedication of the breeders who contributed to the pedigrees we have been privileged to use, their willingness to mentor complete newcomers to the breed and am forever grateful for the trails they pioneered before us.
I have worked in the fitness and wellness industry for over 30 years in addition to grooming, handling, and training dogs. I build an e-commerce wellness business from home in addition to grooming dogs and that allows me to be home with my dogs, something I am very grateful for. I am currently (Covid permitting) offering Conformation Handling Classes in Barrie ON.

I grew up in Port Credit ON. Growing up we always had a variety of animals. At times, quite obscure. We raised orphan raccoons, baby squirrels, an angora rabbit named Fang, and we also had a beautiful German Shepherd named Missy. When Jennifer mentioned she wanted to get a dog, and we started doing our research, my only stipulation was that it had to be a big dog. We met Helen and Dorthy Sibley of Krystalmar Alaskan Malamutes and about two years later, Tkaya joined our lives. The rest is history.
We are so grateful to Helen, Dorothy, and soon thereafter, Maureen Andersen of Keikewabic Alaskan Malamutes, and Sandra D'Andrea of Nanuke Alaskan Malamutes for giving us our start in the breed.
When Jennifer travels to dog shows, I usually stay home to care for the kennel, but love attending the bigger Specialties with her. We both take equal interest in the dogs and devote our time to them every chance we get. Our favourite place of all, however, is in the whelping box with puppies or out on our snowy trails in wintertime.
I am a general contractor and build/renovate homes around our region. My other passions include tapping trees and making Maple Syrup and refurbishing antique wooden boats. Jennifer and I grew up in and met in the sport of flatwater canoe-kayak sprint racing and so anytime we can get out on the water is time well spent.
